The IXth AITU World Congress

The IXth AITU World Congress, which took place from July 2nd to July 6th 2012 in Minsk, Belarus, was even more successful than we had anticipated. This congress marked the 18th anniversary of our association.

The executive committee is very grateful towards the Belarusian State University for the dedication and support that they brought during the organization of this important manifestation. They have welcomed 300 participants (from 61 associations) coming from 33 different countries:
Germany, Argentina, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Chili, China, South Korea, Croatia, Spain, Estonia, France, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Moldavia, Netherlands, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Switzerland, USA, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay.

We also acknowledge and thank the numerous participants for taking part and brilliantly debating during the discussion on the subject of: Traditions, research, experiment: the essential elements of the Contemporary Academic Theater. The 76 scientific presentations were divided as follows: 54 communications, 8 demonstrations, 8 workshops, 4 plenary sessions and 2 dramalabs.

The 9th edition of the “Teatralny Koufar”, the now very famous TU festival of Minsk wonderfully coincided with our 9th Congress. Therefore, the participants had the chance to observe 12 different representations from academical theaters (see the program on http://www.theatre-fest.bsu.by ).

The Congress in Minsk was a good occasion to solidify our relationship with the oriental part of Europe.

In 2014, the AITU will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The new executive committee, put in place during the Congress in Minsk, has chosen Liege (Belgium), the birthplace of the Association, to be the host for the 10th World Congress.

The Royal Academic Theater of Liege (TURLg) has already started to prepare for the celebration of the 10th World Congress. They consider it to be a good opportunity to reassess on past events… and restart the movement.
