REPORT on the
IUTA 8th World Congress - Theatre and Pedagogy
The IUTA VIIIth World Congress ended on July 2, 2010, after five days of intensive work at the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning the Performance Arts at De Montfort University (Leicester, United Kingdom). The Congress brought together participants from more than 150 institutions, 34 countries and 6 continents. The objective of the Congress was to evaluate the various debates, initiatives and innovative approaches of recent years that have impacted the teaching and learning of theatre at the university level in order to identify new ways forward. This objective has been fully achieved. The 85 scholarly papers, demonstrations, workshops and performances presented during the 5 days of the Congress showed the variety and richness of our practice. They also demonstrated the need for this kind of dialogue between students and professors, theoreticians, practitioners, and administrators that is IUTA’s trademark.
Thanks to all and especially to David Edgar and Helen Nicholson, keynote speakers of the Congress, for their contribution to our discussions, and thanks to the Organizing Committee and to De Montfort University for the quality of this 8th IUTA international academic meeting.
